Jack McCurdy
Jack McCurdy has enjoyed jogging for his entire life, and even met his wife while out for a run in Central Park. Around 2007, Jack began to notice that jogging became increasingly more uncomfortable. His pain became so severe that simple tasks like taking a flight of stairs became almost impossible, and he was forced to stop jogging all together. After being referred to Dr. Richard Rosa, he was introduced to the Conformis customized knee replacement technology and learned what to expect after knee surgery.
Q: When did you have your surgery?
A: I had my right knee done in April 2012, and my left knee in October 2012.
Q: What made you decide to get a knee replacement?
A: I was an athlete in high school and college, and continued to jog in my young adult years. I actually met my wife jogging in Central Park! We eventually moved to New Jersey and raised a family. I also coached soccer there for years. It got to the point probably eight, nine years ago that it was very uncomfortable to jog and I stopped jogging. Six years ago it got to the point where walking was an issue and it progressed to the point where I had experienced a lot of pain in just simply walking up or down a flight of steps. I could not walk without taking one step at a time with both feet, which was ridiculous. After being referred to another orthopedic surgeon, I came across Dr. Richard Rosa who explained the process how Conformis customizes knees.
Q: What was your recovery like?
A: I had my first surgery on a Tuesday and was released on a Friday. The next morning I walked in a local park with my wife a third of a mile on a crutch because I could. The recovery was quick.
Q: How do you feel now that you've had your knee replacement?
A: After the surgeries I’m playing tennis like I did seven years ago. I’m going for shots that I never would have gone for before. When I play golf I walk. I walk two miles each morning in 31 minutes or less. I kayak, which even with normal knees it’s hard to get in and out of a kayak. With arthritic knees, forget about it. It wasn’t happening. So now I have my lifestyle back thanks to Conformis. I feel fantastic… thanks for asking.
