Hans trained at the University of Antwerp and did some further training at the Frere Hospital in East London and the Groote Schuur Hospital in Cape Town (both in South Africa). He was appointed Consultant Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgeon at the East Lancashire NHS Trust in 1999.
