IGNATIOS CHATZIANDREOU, MD, PhD

Ignatios Chatziandreou, MD, PhD is a Greek-German Orthopedic Surgeon, currently practicing in Marbella, Spain. He is the Co-Founder and CEO of German Clinic Marbella, and is considered to be an authority in custom-made joint replacement.
He completed his medical studies at Justus Liebig University of Giessen, one of the oldest and most historic universities in Germany, in 2002. Additionally, he worked as a teaching assistant at the Department of Physiology, conducting experiments with junior undergraduate students. In 2005, he completed his thesis “Long-term results of conservative therapy with Fettweis plaster for hip dislocation Graf Type III and IV” and earned his PhD with Distinction.

He trained in Orthopedic Surgery at Klinikum Dortmund from 2002 to 2009, and rotated in Trauma Surgery at Bethesda Hospital Essen an der Ruhr from 2003 to 2004. After obtaining his board certification in Orthopedic Surgery, he started his surgical career at the Department of Orthopedics at Klinikum Dortmund in 2009, where he further developed his passion for gait restoration, and served as the Division Director of Joint Replacement, Arthroplasty and Endoprosthetics.

Dr. Chatziandreou has been one of the pioneers of customized, 3D-printed knee prosthesis implantation in Germany since 2012, and has been sharing his experience as an invited speaker and course instructor in several international congresses and workshops throughout Europe ever since. He performed over 350 3D custom-made knee replacement in Germany, as well as thousands of arthroscopic and joint replacement revision surgeries, before moving to Marbella, Spain in 2016 and becoming the Director of the Department of Orthopedic Surgery and Traumatology at Ochoa Hospital. In October 2018, he co-founded German Clinic Marbella, a successful multi-disciplinary medical and surgical practice in the south of Spain.

For this work, experience and expertise, and for introducing the innovative technology of custom-made, 3D-printed joint replacement to Spain, he received the “A Tu Salud” award from the Spanish Ministrer of Health Maria Luisa Carcedo and “La Razón” in June 2019 as “Doctor Expert in Knee replacement” – “Doctor experto en artroplasia de rodilla”.
